We have a legal requirement to clinically assess patients requiring medication at regular intervals. The interval will depend on the condition and the medication(s) prescribed and will usually be every 3-6 months. Whilst it might seem that these reassessments are very frequent it is important to bear in mind that a human year equates to around 7 years of a cat or dog’s life so changes can occur more quickly for them than for us.
Sometimes medications can be purchased online for less than we are able to supply them due to the purchasing power and reduced overheads of online pharmacies compared to our small practice. If you would like to purchase your medications online please request a written prescription from us. There will be a charge of £12.90 for this service and we require 24 hours notice to prepare it. If purchasing medications online please check that the supplier is a VMD Accredited Pharmacy.
In most situations your pet will be able to receive the best care by coming into our practice where we have our equipment and team on hand to help. We therefore recommend that you have a plan for transporting your pet to the practice when needed, especially if an emergency arose.
We understand that there are certain times that you may not be able to attend the surgery or may not want to come into the clinical environment and we will endeavour to provide house visits in these situations although, as we are a small team, it may not always be possible depending on what is going on in the practice at the time. If you think you will require a house visit please give us as much notice as possible so we can try to accomodate you.
We always recommend having a good insurance policy in place so that you do not have to worry about finances if your pet should fall ill. We are happy to give advice on policies and one of the main points we would suggest to look for would be a ‘lifetime’ policy which means as long as you keep continuous cover with the insurance provider then your pet will never have exclusions put in place.
The other thing to consider is what level of cover you would like. Factors to consider are the size of your pet (medications and surgery will cost more for large breeds compared to smaller breeds) and what level of treatment you might consider if your pet was to fall ill (referral level diagnostics and treatment can cost more than in house treatment). For reference referral diagnostics or surgery would usually be in the region of £3,000-4,000.
We are happy to process direct claims with all insurance companies and do not currently charge any admin fees for processing claims. If you have any questions regarding insurance please pop in or give us a call to discuss in more detail.
WEIGHT LOSS CLINICS
We unfortunately see a lot of pets who struggle to maintain a healthy weight and this can be a combination of diet and lifestyle and sometimes underlying medical conditions such as an underactive thyroid. Carrying extra weight can have an impact on your pet’s quality of life and lead to other diseases such as arthritis, diabetes and breathing difficulties.
If your pet is struggling to lose the pounds then get in touch and we can arrange a complimentary weight loss consultation with Gill and follow-ups to track their progress. We are also always happy for you to pop in and weigh your pet and let us have a look so we can assess if they are at the correct weight or not.
Like everyone we are always excited to meet new puppies! If you have, or are planning to have, a new addition to the family and need any help or information then get in touch. Tracy runs our puppy parties to help with socialisation and will also do free one-to-one sessions for clients who would like more guidance.
We offer a complimentary health check to newly registered pets and have a puppy pack covering vaccines and flea/worming treatment to make sure your pup gets the best start in life.
Our team of qualified nurses are always available in working hours to give nursing consultations. These might include puppy or kitten advice, diet advice, nail clips, second vaccinations, discussion of parasite control and lots of other things. Please give us a call or pop in if you would like a consult with a nurse.
